After completing his BE in Electronics Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan, in 1991. He joined the R&D department of Pakistan Steel Mills (the biggest industrial complex of Pakistan). There he designed and developed several highly sophisticated, micro-controller based instrumentation and control systems.
In 1993 he joined the masters program at the KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia as a Research Assistant in EE Department. As a part of his MS thesis he had designed a Highly Reconfigurable RISC Data flow Array Processor in VLSI. During his Masters he published several papers in the field of VLSI Systems Design, Computer Architecture, Current Mode Analog Electronics.
He was offered a Job at the Research Institute of KFUPM, while he was a Master student. After completing his Master in 1995, he joined the Research Institute of KFUPM. In the Research Institute he worked mainly in the area of Hardware-Software Codesign, Encryption / Compression schemes and their hardware realization in VLSI.
During his Ph.D reseach, he worked at the LSI Research Laboratories of SONY Corporation, on the design of a high performance future generation Multimedia processor. Recently submitted nearly a dozen Invention Disclosures and US Patents in the area of Computer Arithmetic, Multimedia, and VLSI design, this is 1.2% of Intel's total Patents in 25 years -:) he completed his Ph.D., from University of California, Davis, in Computer Eng. in a record period of two years.
Currently he is a working as a Senior Corporate Application Engineer, at Synopsys Corporation in Mountain View, and also doing his private consultancy.
